Jo began her hairdressing career as an apprentice in a central London salon in The Strand.
She then moved to a salon in Bow ,London nearer to where she lived to start her apprenticeship . After completing her 5 year apprenticeship within the salon and attending the L'oreal training school in Kensington which is now in Hammersmith London, and Tottenham college in North London she was put in charge of managing training within the salon.
In 1991 she took the leap to obtaining her own salon In Bow, London called the Freak factory. The salon was a huge success, situated on a main high street, opposite Canary Wharf .
She then married ,sold the salon and moved to Essex to raise her son. Once she relocated to Essex she created another salon called Dancing Scissors in Thurrock. Again this business was also a success to which she sold to her manager.
In the year 2001 she relocated to Coventry and opened her 3rd salon called Burlingtons, this was seen at the time as a project as she was looking to retire. However this business was a huge success due to its residential position and quality of staff.
In 2017 she made the decision to relocate to Dorset to retire, However on relocating she soon realised that she was not ready to retire and so The Strand was born.
